LASERPLAST
HYPERTRICHOSIS AND HIRSUTISM
True beauty lies in the beholder’s eyes
The presence of hair is often considered unaesthetic, and laser technology is almost always the most effective way to improve this condition. Hair removal may be desired in areas where hair is normally present and the quantity is also normal (unwanted hair), in areas where hair is normally present but the quantity is above normal (hypertrichosis), or in areas where hair is not normally present and the quantity is abundant (hirsutism). A careful analysis of the patient’s history will suggest one of these 3 conditions, but some instrumental screening is often also necessary for a correct diagnosis (ovarian ultrasonography to check for ovarian micro-cysts, CAT scan of the adrenal glands to check for neoformations in this area, blood tests to evaluate hormone levels etc.). A diagnosis of hirsutism can be considered only if a score of 8 or higher is obtained on the Ferriman-Gallwey scale (published in 1961).
