TELEANGIECTASIE (CAPILLARIES) ON THE LEGS

True beauty lies in the beholder’s eyes

The presence of visible capillaries on the lower limbs is very common, above all in women (the ratio women:men in this pathology is 9:1). Having established through an obligatory ecocolor doppler that the teleangiectasie are not a sign of an underlying venous insufficiency (which would require surgery), this imperfection can be improved with sclerotherapy and/or laser therapy. The sclerotherapy procedure involves the injection of substances into the vessels which makes them contract and close. Laser therapy (using an Nd:YAG long pulse laser) on the other hand, coagulates the circulating blood and does not affect the vessels themselves. Laser treatment usually follows the blood flow and can also affect vessels of very small diameter, which cannot be treated with sclerotherapy.
